Blogging in English
(This is a reprint of the original post)
I've decided to write this blog in English from now on. After two and a half years of blogging in Spanish, and almost 250 posts published, I think it is the right time for this change. In fact, I've been considering writting in English for some time. The reason is not related with reaching a broader audience. Actually, it is a more selfish reason. I'll use the blog as an exercise to practice my English. Over the last year or so, English skills have become very important for me. On one hand, my work pushes me: everyday I write reports in English, and sometimes I travel abroad, or receive visitors. As part of my job, I also participate in teleconferences and ocasionaly, videoconferences. On the other hand, I'm studying for my PhD. Nowadays, all the research is done (and published) in English. I'm considering writing my dissertation in English, but I'm not sure if I am brave enough.
So I am committed to improve my English. I've taken some measures. For example, I listen everyday to news broadcasts of American and British radio stations (using my Nokia 770), and I try to watch movies in the original version. In the last few years, I've read a lot of technical books in English, but now I'm also choosing English books for my non-technical readings. I'm attending to English lessons provided by my employer. Someday, I will translate my personal webpage, but this is going to take some time because I have ambitious plans for my webpage. Finally, I will try to write my posts at this blog in English. Wish me luck.
